There was time when Britney Spears covered popular songs like Rolling Stones’ ‘Satisfaction’ or Joan Jett’s ‘I love Rock & Roll.’ And now it’s her time to shine! Instead of checking out charts’ lists to find out what’s really popular these days you’d better check out what songs are covered by other artists.
‘Womanizer’ is one of the It-songs now. Everyone covers Britney. Everyone covers ‘Womanizer.’
Britney Spears is wearing a 'magic’ ring to give her confidence.
The 'Womanizer’ singer has been spotted wearing a tourmaline band, which claims to boost inner strength and provide a sense of stability.
The rock was given to her by the celebrity designer Dara Dubinet to help her get back on track following her public breakdown last January.
Dara told Life and Style Weekly magazine: 'I made the ring with Britney in mind. When something is made with good intention, it carries that positive energy to the person who ends up wearing it.'
It was recently claimed Britney has lost confidence in her dancing ability and has been missing rehearsals for her new world tour because she is too embarrassed.
The 27-year-old star – who is preparing for her first arena tour in five years – is said to be reluctant to dance in front of choreographer Wade Robson, who she has worked with since 1999.
A source said: "She didn't want him to see that she's not as good as she used to be."
Britney kicks off her tour in New Orleans on March 3.
The showbiz-circus theme of Britney Spears' sixth album is as unsubtle as the big top itself, but there are few performers for whom the metaphor is so apt, both in her personal life and on record. Spears specializes in the sort of songs dominated by smoke and mirrors, and when ensconced within those trappings, she reaches the highest heights of shiny dance music. Hence, Circus is exhilarating when Spears is at her most artificial, but it stumbles under some misguided attempts at sentiment.
More than on last year's flat-sounding Blackout, Spears sounds like she's put some real effort into her Circus performances. While her vocal range remains as limited as ever, she displays an interesting ability to disappear into various personae: She snarls and barks to an aggressive beat on the paparazzi-taunting "Kill The Lights," pouts and chirps through the endearingly silly "Mmm Papi," and takes the virgin/whore character she's been perfecting since her 1999 debut to glorious new levels of innuendo on "If U Seek Amy." (Say the title aloud.) None of these personas or subjects are unusual in pop music, but Spears' enthusiasm, signature nasal coo, and odd hiccup-y pronunciations make it all seem uniquely her.
Someone so obviously comfortable and capable
within the realm of spectacle should probably stay away from attempts at
sincerity or introspection, yet Circus turns out a couple of schmaltzy ballads
overseen by producer Guy Sigsworth. Slowing it down has never been Spears'
strong suit—though the R&B-laced slow jam "Blur" finds an interesting
middle ground—but the ballads, "Out From Under" and "My Baby," are about
five years out of date, and her vocals seem anemic and distracted in spite of
the confessional lyrics. For better or worse, Spears is, as she says on the
title track, "a put-on-a-show type of girl," and when she sticks to that credo,
Circus
works.

A HIT, ONE MORE TIME: For the second week in a row, the record for the biggest leap to No. 1 on The Billboard Hot 100 has been broken. Just seven days ago, I was writing about T.I. and Rihanna racing 80-1 with "Live Your Life," besting the 71-1 move of T.I.'s "Whatever You Like" six weeks earlier.
That new record set by "Live Your Life" only lasted one week, as Britney Spears' "Womanizer" (Jive) blasts 96-1, almost - but not quite - the biggest jump to pole position possible.
There are only four other positions on the chart from which an artist could make a greater bound to the top. Once a single does take the inevitable 100-1 ride, we can all be assured the record will never be broken again.
Looking at this week's Hot 100 might make you wonder if that 100-1 jump is going to happen next week. Debuting in the anchor slot is a new Beyonce single, "If I Were a Boy" (Music World/Columbia). But don't look for a new record to be set when you read the next edition of Chart Beat. "If I Were a Boy" is charting based on early airplay - that's the same way Spears' "Womanizer" entered at No. 96 last week. The difference is that a digital single of "If I Were a Boy" wasn't released this week, so there isn't going to be an injection of sales to fuel a big "Boy" move. Additional airplay will allow the Beyonce track to move up, and an eventual digital release could result in an impressive jump to first place, but not a record-setting move.
Since we have a new record-holder, here is an update of the list published last week, summarizing the dozen songs that have leapt to No. 1 from No. 31
96-1: "Womanizer," Britney Spears (Oct. 25, 2008)
80-1: "Live Your Life," T.I. featuring Rihanna (Oct. 18, 2008)
71-1: "Whatever You Like," T.I. (Sept. 6, 2008)
64-1: "Makes Me Wonder," Maroon 5 (Sept. 12, 2007)
53-1: "Take a Bow," Rihanna (May 24, 2008)
52-1: "A Moment Like This," Kelly Clarkson (Oct. 5, 2002)
51-1: "Love in This Club," Usher featuring Young Jeezy (March 15, 2008)
42-1: "Give It to Me," Timbaland featuring Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado (April 21, 2007)
41-1: "Umbrella," Rihanna featuring Jay-Z (June 9, 2007)
34-1: "SOS," Rihanna (May 13, 2006)
32-1: "This Is Why I'm Hot," Mims (March 10, 2007)
31-1: "SexyBack," Justin Timberlake (Sept. 9, 2006)
"Womanizer" puts Britney back in control of the Hot 100 for the first time in nine years and nine months, since her first chart entry, "...Baby One More Time" ruled the list. That's the longest gap between No. 1 songs since Cher's "Believe" moved into the penthouse 10 days shy of 25 years after "Dark Lady."
"Believe" began its reign in March 1999, just four weeks after "...Baby One More Time" ended its run at the top.
"Womanizer"
is Spears' 18th chart entry and sixth top 10 hit. Two of her three
biggest hits have occurred in the last 13 months. Here's how those
half-dozen top 10 songs fared:
No. 1: "...Baby One More Time" (1999)
No. 1: "Womanizer" (2008)
No. 3: "Gimme More" (2007)
No. 9: "Ooops!...I Did It Again" (2000)
No. 9: "Toxic" (2004)
No. 10: "(You Drive Me) Crazy" (1999)
Finally,
Spears is one of just a small group of artists who have spent time at
No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the 20th and 21st centuries. The other members
of this elite club are Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Destiny's
Child, Jennifer Lopez, P. Diddy, Jay-Z, Usher and Mariah Carey. Justin
Timberlake and Krayzie Bone have No. 1s in this century as solo artists
and in the last century as members of groups - 'N Sync and
Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, respectfully.
LONDON (AFP) — Despite their personal problems, Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse remain a favourite with fans and lead the nominations for best act at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool, it was announced on Monday.
Singer Beyonce is also up for an award and is expected to perform at the November 6 event in Liverpool.
The 27-year-old former member of Destiny's Child is competing against Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Kanye West and Lil Wayne in the 'ultimate urban' category, one of 10 awards at the event voted for by music fans.
( Read more... )Britney Spears' comeback track Womanizer has leaked on to the Internet. The eagerly anticipated song was set to hit the airwaves in the U.S. next week, but has been partly uploaded online and can be heard through Nashville radio station 107.5 The River's website.
According to Usweekly, the tune features sexy lyrics, with Spears' singing, "Boy don't try to front/I know just what gets you off".
The song is taken from Spears' forthcoming LP Circus, which she has hailed as her best work yet, and is slated for a December release to coincide with her 27th birthday.
The album is said to mark a return to form for the pop superstar after a year of erratic behaviour, which came to a shocking end earlier this year as she entered a psychiatric ward and lost custody of her two young sons.
Britney won her first and second and third Moonman at the VMA 2008. Rehabbing Miss American Dream got the ultimate prize – the Video of the Year!
Upon accepting the award, Spears said:
But there was one disappointment for all the fans who expected Brit to perform as there were rumors of her rehearsing performance to an unknown new song. As she stepped on the scene audience raised and applaused expecting her performance. Instead, she just greeted everyone and said a few lines.I’m speechless, oh my goodness, thank you… this is an honor. I first want to thank God first and foremost for just blessing me like this.. um…my beautiful family, my two beautiful boys for inspiring me everyday and my fans… this if for you. Thank you so much.”

When the nominations were first unveiled for the MTV Video Music Awards this year and Britney Spears made the lineup for "Piece of Me," my first impulse as an awards guru was to think: She'll win, natch. Britney Spears was the biggest star of 2008, after all, albeit in that train wreck kinda way. But then, after further reflection and a look back at past winners in this category, I flip-flopped and thought: no, no, no.
The reason: Who picks the MTV VMA winners. If this year's VMAs were decided like they were in 2006, yes, Britney might be considered the front-runner. That was the one year champs were decided by online voters. But Panic at the Disco prevailed then for "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies," which was widely ridiculed by serious music gurus. Gritty journalists — the type who write for Rolling Stone and Billboard — were particularly irked that Panic beat the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Dani California," and they gave MTV so much hell over it that the VMAs switched the decision-making process back to folks who picked winners in the past: a random assortment of showbiz industry hipsters they considered to be cool. Some past voters who I knew personally were journalists and producers at E! Entertainment Network and VH1, for example.
In the past, these hipsters chose mostly respectable champs for video of the year: Green Day ("Boulevard of Broken Dreams"), Outkast ("Hey Ya") and Eminem ("Without Me"). Not the trashy, trailer-park, bubble-gum stars like Britney, who hasn't, let's face it, been taken too seriously as an artist and has never won a Moonman. She lost all 16 past nominations, including her only previous bid for best video of the year: "Toxic" (2004).
This year it seemed possible that voters might give Britney the pop-video award as a sympathy prize after all she's been through. After all, that award has "pop" in the title. But best video of the year?
The fact that Britney won that lofty trophy is a triumph of the Olympian kind and proof of what host Russell Brand asserted at show's end: that she has finally "conquered" musicdom.
Granted, there weren't any nominees competing against her that get the kind of artistic huzzahs that Green Day and Eminem do. That surely helped her odds and the omission was odd. But, still, that shouldn't detract too much from her accomplishment. We live in an era when personal dysfunction, even craziness, is celebrated in reality TV shows and tabloid news. In that context, Britney's recent personal collapse detracts little, it turns out, when stacked against her rep as an enduring music entertainer. Maybe even artist too.
There have been rumours of the former sweethearts pairing up again for years, but it seems that the long awaited duet between Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake is finally back on.
The pair - who
dated in their teens and split in 2002 - will be teaming up for a song
on the Toxic singer's next album, which is due at the end of the year.
'They’re planning to record a duet – a dance track – for her new album,’ a source close to the singer reportedly told Life & Style magazine.

Britney will be teaming up with former flame Justin Timberlake for a track which will be on her new album
Justin and Britney have had little contact since their split six years ago, but the
27-year-old is said to be willing to put the past aside in order to help his former love.
‘He’s been sent her new music, and his feedback is really positive,’ an insider said to be close to the star is quoted as saying.
The former couple were supposed to team up for her last album, but
troubled Spears missed her recording session with legendary producer
Timbaland at his Virginia Beach studio last August.
She is also thought to have avoided seeing Justin at the VMA’s in 2007 when he attempted to wished her good luck before her disastrous performance.
But the mother-of-two is now said to be keen to show her ex that she has changed.
She’s strong again – and she wants Justin to see that. Musically she wants to blow him away,’ the source added.
However it seems unlikely that the pair will reignite their relationship.
Justin is currently dating actress Jessica Biel and reportedly 'only wants friendship from Britney.'
Britney is currently recording for the album and recently described it as her 'best work ever'.
"I think it is more urban. I'm working with producers who are just amazing," she told OK magazine.
She said that she had written most of the material and was spending time at the piano every day working on new songs.
